SD-15.11 — Client & Investor Onboarding

Business Domain: BD-15 Distribution, Product & Client Management (Commercial) · Applies: BOTH

Purpose

Onboards a new client or investor — turning a won mandate or a closed commitment into a live, operational relationship. SD-15.11 runs the onboarding journey: negotiating and executing the investment-management agreement or the subscription, opening the account, and coordinating the cross-functional onboarding that makes the new client investable. It is not the financial-crime KYC and AML check — that is SD-14.3, which SD-15.11 triggers and consumes — and it is not the mandate’s codification into objectives and constraints, which is SD-01.2; SD-15.11 owns the commercial and operational onboarding, SD-01.2 codifies the mandate it produces.

Service Operations

  • Negotiate and execute the agreement — negotiate and execute the investment-management agreement, or process the fund subscription, for the new client or investor.
  • Open the account — open the client account or investor record and coordinate its operational set-up.
  • Coordinate cross-functional onboarding — coordinate the onboarding across operations, data, compliance and the front office so the client is investable.
  • Trigger and consume the KYC check — initiate the financial-crime KYC / AML check (run by SD-14.3) and gate the onboarding on its outcome.
  • Confirm onboarding readiness — confirm the client or investor is fully onboarded, and hand the relationship to SD-15.13.

Inputs and outputs

  • Inputs: the won mandate from SD-15.7, or the closed commitment from SD-15.10; the IMA / subscription documents; the KYC outcome from SD-14.3.
  • Outputs: the onboarded client or investor and the executed agreement — consumed by SD-01.2 (mandate codification), SD-12.15 Transfer Agency & Investor Dealing (the investor on the register), SD-13.2 (the client as a legal entity) and SD-15.13.

Entities

  • Consumes: E-03 Portfolio / Mandate, E-01 Legal Entity (the client / investor), PM-06 LP Commitment, PM-10 Fund Terms, FO-01 Fund Product (the issued-fund product the investor is onboarding into — the fund product record governs the subscription terms and dealing eligibility), FO-02 Share / Unit Class (the specific class the investor is onboarding into — investor_category, min_investment and class_fee_schedule on FO-02 govern class eligibility and the onboarding terms); the SD-14.3 KYC outcome; the SD-15.10 closed commitment; the SD-15.7 won mandate.
  • Owns: the onboarding case and the client-relationship record at inception — a process artefact.
  • Open question: a Client / Investor entity — the client or investor as an owned, governed relationship record, shared across the BD-15 client-management cluster.

Standards

  • The investment-management-agreement conventions; the ICGN Model Mandate; the fund-subscription-document conventions.
  • AML / KYC at onboarding — the check itself is SD-14.3’s (cross-reference).

Open extensions

  • A Client / Investor entity.
  • The onboarding-workflow sub-model.
  • The Service-Operation-level input/output contracts.
