SD-13.10 — Investment Reporting & Dashboards
Business Domain: BD-13 Investment Data & Reporting (Cross-cutting — data) · Applies: BOTH
Purpose
Produces the institution’s internal investment reporting — the portfolio reports, management dashboards and ad-hoc analytical output through which investment staff and management see the portfolio. SD-13.10 is the reporting surface the firm uses to look at itself: holdings reports, performance and risk dashboards, allocation views, the ad-hoc query service. It is distinct from the external, accountable reporting owned by BD-16 — owner & investor reporting (SD-16.2), regulatory filings (SD-16.3), financial disclosure (SD-16.4) — which has its own audience, format and assurance obligations and which consumes SD-13.10’s data and the SD-13.8 metric definitions. SD-13.10 reports figures; it does not compute performance, risk or accounting numbers — those come from BD-09, BD-07 and BD-12, calculated to the governed definitions of SD-13.8.
Service Operations
- Standard investment reporting — produce the recurring internal report pack — holdings, performance, risk, exposure, allocation, attribution — on the cadence each audience needs (daily, monthly, quarterly).
- Management dashboard delivery — build and operate the interactive dashboards through which portfolio managers, the CIO and management monitor the portfolio against objectives, benchmark and limits.
- Ad-hoc query service — answer the one-off analytical questions investment staff bring, drawing on the certified datasets and the semantic layer so the answers are consistent with the standard reports.
- Report definition and template management — maintain the catalogue of report and dashboard definitions, their templates and their data bindings, under change control.
- Report distribution and scheduling — schedule report production and distribute outputs to their audiences through the appropriate channels.
- Self-service enablement — provision the governed, semantic-layer-backed self-service environment that lets analysts build their own views without leaving the certified-data perimeter.
- Reporting-to-external handoff — supply the consistent internal data and figures that BD-16’s external-reporting Service Domains repackage for owners, investors and regulators, so internal and external numbers reconcile.
Inputs and outputs
- Inputs: the certified datasets and governed metric definitions from SD-13.8; the computed figures from BD-09 (performance), BD-07 (risk) and BD-12 (accounting / NAV); holdings and exposure data; the masters from SD-13.1 / SD-13.2 / SD-13.3.
- Outputs: internal investment reports, management dashboards and ad-hoc analytical output — consumed by the front office (BD-01 to BD-06), the CIO and management, and the investment-risk and performance functions; and the consistent internal data handed to SD-16.2 / SD-16.3 / SD-16.4 for external reporting.
Entities
- Owns: the report and dashboard definitions and templates — the reporting-layer artefacts. SD-13.10 does not own business-data entities; it consumes them and the certified datasets.
- Consumes: broadly across the entity model — E-03 Portfolio / Mandate, E-04 Holding / Position (any
book— internal dashboards report both the IBOR live position and the ABOR period-end position depending on the report), E-07 Valuation (anymethod), E-10 Benchmark / Index, E-19 Risk Measurement (anyrisk_type), and the private-markets entities (PM-07, PM-08, PM-09) for private-markets reporting; the metric definitions of SD-13.8; the SD-13.1 masters; the SD-13.2 masters; the SD-13.3 masters; E-37 ESG Compliance Result (from SD-10.9 — the internal ESG-compliance reporting and dashboards); E-38 Internal Credit Rating (from SD-02.3 — the rating-distribution and rating-migration analytics). - Open question: whether a report-definition entity (a versioned, governed report / dashboard specification) is warranted, parallel to the metric-definition question in SD-13.8.
Standards
- GIPS — internal performance reporting uses the same governed methodology as the GIPS-compliant external presentations (SD-09.6), so internal and external figures reconcile.
- ILPA — internal private-markets reporting follows ILPA metric conventions, consistent with the external LP reporting BD-16 produces.
- Report formatting and BI-tool choice are implementation matters; the model specifies the reporting capability and its certified-data dependency, not the product.
Open extensions
- The report-definition-as-entity question.
- The internal-to-external reconciliation contract with BD-16’s reporting Service Domains.
- The self-service governance model — the guardrails on the semantic-layer-backed self-service perimeter.
